You Can't Pick And Choose

This post is sort of a spin-off from the last post I had.

When we are for the Lord we are not able to pick and choose from His Word what we want to obey and what we don't. It is all one way, if you aren't seeking everything that God wants then you are against Him and you will be on the side of Satan.

As I have said before obeying the Ten Commandments alone will not get you into heaven, the only way to heaven is through the Son, Jesus Christ but we need to obey the Ten Commandments, these are commandments God gave us along with other commandments. We need to seek them and do what God wants us to do and not do the things He doesn't want us to do.

I believe most Christians are aware of the things God wants us to do but there are some that doesn't realize the true importance of these things. When God says we are not to steal He doesn't say a piece of candy or a pencil isn't really stealing. I am not talking about when you use a pen that belongs to someone else and you forget to give it back (I have done this before), I am talking about seeing a pen that you want so you take it. God didn't say it is okay to take the little things just don't steal the big things or money. There have been times when I am at the doctor's office and I am reading a magazine and I don't get the article finished and I will ask them if I can take the magazine home and bring it back to them, I have never had them tell me I couldn't take it with me; it is just that simple. The best thing is just not to take anything that doesn't belong to you.

You know sometimes with our parents we can become frustrated with them causing us to get angry but we need to always remember no matter how old a person is they have feelings. The fifth commandment is "Honor Thy Father And Thy Mother". We are to treat them with love, respect, and kindness. I know how hard this may be at times but this is what the Lord wants of us so we should do this. We will be rewarded for the love we show our parents.

It is against God to willfully kill another person. Life is very important to God and He wants us to take care of it. In the New Testament it condemns hate, which prompts one to desire the death of another; I John 3:15; "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him". There are certain sins a true born-again believer will not commit because of the endless life of Christ abiding in him.

Exodus 21:22-23; "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow; he shall be surely punished... verse23, And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt five life for life". Her fruit depart from her" means giving birth prematurely or having an abortion. God is letting us know He requires protection of unborn children in this verse.

Leviticus 18:22; "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination". This is strictly forbidden by God to have sexual activity with the same sex. Man and woman were created to reproduce so that the earth would have more people. God would never create something that was an abomination to Him. People are not born wanting to have sex with the same sex, this comes from Satan. Satan wants us to think it is okay when in all truth it is not.

Words are not just words; we are not to use God's name in vain. We should treat God's name as hallowed, honor, respectful, and sacred. God's name should be used in a holy manner. We should never swear by His holy name.

I hope this has helped you in knowing that we can not pick and choose what we learn, do, and obey from God's Word.

May you always know the love, joy, and peace of the Lord!

What an amazing reminder to follow ALL of God's law and not just the 'easy' parts! It's easy to 'pick & choose' the parts of God's word that we want to obey, but that's not what He wants...He gave us the 'instruction manual' to follow COMPLETELY! Doing that isn't so hard when we have a heart to follow after our Creator!

Thanks for this great post. I definitely needed it today!

Love you!!!

We can't pick and choose what to obey and what to ignore. That is not how God wants us to live. Great encouragement!
